The designers got it!

I had lunch recently at Whole Foods and while sipping my coffee, I looked up to notice how cheerful and colourful my surroundings were. Grocery stores are often bright, colourful, and typically very busy. Colour needs to be used carefully, because in retail you want to product you’re selling to be the highlight, not the background. But often what happens is that the use of colour and pattern gets overused and the environment is over stimulating.

What Wholefoods has done, is make the surroundings colourful yet earthy and holistic. Their designers have captured perfectly what is outlined in their mission as a company-

Over stimulating, where does the visual stop and product start?

The colur palette of blues and greens are perfect global colours. They unite us all on earth in some way, they are not offending or harsh. They complement browns, blacks, greys, and most warm tones of orange or yellow.

By using these hues as major accents, the designers allow the visual user to feel relaxed and at ease. I take my hat off to the retail designers responsible for a job perfectly executed!
